This must be the character of the 2022 vintage! The color is pale, but it's so dense that you can feel the viscosity. It has a pleasant bitterness like pink grapefruit, and also a flavor like peach. The sweetness of ripe fruit, which becomes especially noticeable in the latter half, blends together into a feeling of bliss, like a tropical cocktail. In the South of France, the Cinsault grape variety is often used for rosé wine, but this is the first time we've had a Cinsault like this. It's advertised as a Pet Nat, but currently has no bubbles. Maybe just a slight tingle on the tongue. To be clear, this is not a sparkling wine at this time. However, whether it has bubbles or not doesn't really matter, the richness of the juice and the acidity are superb. We thought it might be low alcohol, but it's a proper 12.5%. We didn't feel the alcohol at all. The grapes are Gewurztraminer from Alsace. This is delicious. Bain de Bulles (= Bath of bubbles). This sparkling wine is made from Muscat grapes in Alsace and has a rich fruitiness paired with vibrant acidity. Chilling it close to 0 degrees makes it very refreshing! Although it is not recommended for those who have been educated to consider V.A. (volatile acid) in wine as a defect, there is a dedicated fan base for wines where V.A. is expressed in a moderate and exquisite manner, positively enhancing the wine. [Lot 2021] This Pet-Nat is made from old vines of Aligote in Puligny-Montrachet. It has a crisp, lemony flavor with refreshing bubbles. By the way, "Chassornade" is a word coined by Frédéric Cossard, combining "Chassorney" and "Lemonade". Yes, he wanted to make a Pet-Nat that tastes like lemonade! It's cloudy because it was released without disgorgement. There seems to be an issue with inventory data management or possibly a mistake in the warehouse, as two lots from the 2020 and 2021 vintages exist. This wine was not particularly intended for aging, so the practice was to sell out one lot before moving on to the next. However, tasting both wines side by side was quite interesting. The Aligoté from Puligny-Montrachet shows a stark difference between the 2020 and 2021 vintages. Indeed, this is a reasonable observation given the vintage differences between 2020 and 2021 in Burgundy. [Mature Bottle Release] Bigotes is a great natural wine classic, made from Chardonnay from the Puligny-Montrachet area, near Volnay and Pommard. The age of the vines is 55 years. Frederic Cossard produces wine exclusively from old vines. The fruit and mineral characteristics are well-balanced at a high level. The 2020 vintage is well matured today; it's the perfect time to uncork. Immediately after opening, it emits bouquet and has quite a soft impression, but as time passes, it gains freshness and lively tension. People often describe Cossard's wines as Vin Vivant, and indeed, this Bigotes 2020 truly embodies that. [Mature Bottle Release] Saint-Romain is Cossard's home ground. This is a thrilling signature wine from Frédéric Cossard that puzzles wine critics and sommeliers. It deviates from the typical Burgundy Chardonnay. Combe Bazin belongs to the same geological stratum as Puligny-Montrachet. After more than five years of bottle aging, the fruit, acidity, and minerality that were in explosive balance immediately after bottling are now beautifully integrated, yet the tension remains unusually high. In a typical wine tasting, we don't think this would be identified as a Burgundy Chardonnay. This nature is the same as in 2017, but 2018 is richer and bigger than 2017. The label also indicates Voitte. (In years with insufficient yield, it is blended with wines from other Lieu-dits and labeled simply as Puligny-Montrachet.) Voitte is classified as a village appellation but is a hidden treasure vineyard located near Les Pucelles and Clavaillon. While Premier Cru wines are valued for their intricacy and delicate expression, Voitte excels in fruit richness and concentration. Given that this is a 2018 vintage crafted by Frederic Cossard, expectations are high, but those expectations will not be disappointed. Cossard's white wines are difficult to estimate the peak drinking window, but enjoying a bottle now is not a bad idea. [Mature Bottle Release] Les Damodes is located on the border with Vosne-Romanée. Over 55 years Vieilles Vignes from 0.3ha small parcel in Les Damodes. Four weeks maceration in wood tank, and four weeks for fermentation by wild yeast. 2018 has a different character compared to 2017, showcasing a striking contrast. It features a warm, rounded, and thick texture with a rich extract. Perhaps due to its location, there are also elements reminiscent of VR, but the unique earthiness distinctly marks it as NSG. Les Damodes consists of areas classified as Village and Premier Cru, but this is classified as Village. However, once tasted, it becomes clear that the quality consistently surpasses that of most other producers' Premier Cru wines. [Mature Bottle Release] Following 2018, this is the second production of Mercurey. This time, it is made using Qvevris. When we first tasted the Qvevris wine by Frédéric Cossard immediately after its release (debut was the 2018 vintage), we were bewildered by its extremely unique flavor. However, after observing the maturation process over the years, we have begun to understand Cossard's intentions and the direction in which the wine is heading. It goes without saying that 2019 possesses completely different vintage characteristics compared to the 2018 (which is also controversial), so we highly recommend experiencing both. This time, we received La Lune 2022, Rosé d'un Jour 2023, and Les Blanderies 2021. Regarding La Lune, there was not much difference compared to the previous vintage from 2021, which was already produced under Martial's initiative, although the weather conditions were different between 2021 and 2022. However, Les Blanderies left a significantly different impression than the 2020 vintage. It may have been just that particular day, but its softness and delicacy combined with a pleasant lightness that felt airy, made it seem more vibrant than the 2020 version. We thought that allowing it to acclimate to the environment here for a few more months might help it focus better. "Les Blanderies are younger vines planted just below VV, terroir is slightly different. It is still clay but the rocks here are phtanites. Phtanites contribute significant natural citric acid to the grapes. In the 90s, my father had to prove to the administration through analysis that he did not add citric acid to this wine; it is all natural thanks to this special terroir" by Martial Angéli. The most comfortable wine in the world, Rosé d'un Jour! Made from Grolleau Gris. "Rosé d’un Jour was a sweet wine made with over-matured grapes, so depending on the vintage, it was made either with botrytis or passerillage. We have concluded the production of Rosé d’un Jour, with 2023 being the final vintage, to reduce the size of the vineyard and focus on the Chenin", said Martial Angéli. Needless to say, Saint-Romain is their home ground. Sous la Velle is located 380m above sea level, just next to Sous Roche. The wine has good minerality and pure fruit. Frédéric et Laure Cossard have specially bottled this cuvée only in magnum. In fact, we purchased this cuvée six years ago, but we have never sold it while it has been cellared in Burgundy, making this its first release. [Mature Bottle Release] This special cuvée is bottled only in magnum format. It is made from Pinot Noir sourced from a tiny parcel in Saint-Romain that is the home ground of Frédéric and Laure Cossard. Characterized by floral notes and lovely red berries, the wine is extremely pure, lively, and silky, which embodies the full style we appreciate from Frédéric and Laure Cossard. While it has been delicious since the beginning, the wine has now reached its peak. 100% Chardonnay Blanc de Blancs from the blend of Côte des Blancs, Grande Vallée de la Marne, and Côte de Sezanne. [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] The 2021 Latour à Pomerol delivers a strong showing in bottle, unwinding in the glass to reveal aromas of minty dark berries, licorice, violets and pencil shavings, followed by a medium-bodied, fleshy and suave palate with good depth at the core, lively acids and powdery tannins that have integrated well with élevage. RP92+ [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] In the 2019 vintage, this estate was a highlight of the Mouiex portfolio, and the 2020 Latour à Pomerol is a terrific follow-up. Bursting with aromas of cherries, dark berries, licorice, black truffle and petroleum jelly, it's medium to full-bodied, with a broad attack that segues into a rich core of fruit that's framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Wafting from the glass with notes of cherries, dark berries, licorice, anise, violets and baking chocolate, it's medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered, with a velvety attack that segues into a suave, seamless mid-palate that exhibits good depth and concentration. RP94 [JEAN-PIERRE MOUEIX Vineyards] Unwinding in the glass with aromas of minty blackberries, loamy soil, black truffles and petroleum jelly, the 2020 La Fleur-Pétrus is full-bodied, ample and enveloping, with a rich, layered core of fruit framed by supple, polished tannins, concluding with a broad, licorice-inflected finish. As in 2019, it outshines Trotanoy as the star of the Mouiex Pomerol portfolio. RP96, 95-97 The new Chassorney by Aurélien Verdet, starting with the excellent 2022 vintage, is a wine with great aging potential. It is easy to imagine its future beauty. We could sense a subtle difference from Frédéric Cossard in the well-structured, authentic Bourgogne style that beautifully integrates the ripe, concentrated fruit. These wines are very promising and will likely evolve gracefully over time. Domaine de Chassorney Volnay is made from vines over 50 years old on the lieux-dits of Les Lurets, Les Grands Poisots, Paux Bois, and Les petits Poisots. This assemblage of four parcels contributes to the wine's depth and balance.       1 2
