Information

Saint-Romain is Cossard's home ground. This is a thrilling signature wine from Frédéric Cossard that puzzles wine critics and sommeliers. It deviates from the typical Burgundy Chardonnay. Combe Bazin belongs to the same geological stratum as Puligny-Montrachet.

After more than five years of bottle aging, the fruit, acidity, and minerality that were in explosive balance immediately after bottling are now beautifully integrated, yet the tension remains unusually high. In a typical wine tasting, we don't think this would be identified as a Burgundy Chardonnay. This nature is the same as in 2017, but 2018 is richer and bigger than 2017.

When we planned to re-release the 2018 vintage Chassorney Saint-Romain Combe Bazin as an aged bottle last September, we decided against it because it was still too young and the wine hadn't settled enough after being transported by ocean. Now, about four months later, it is undeniable that the wine is still fundamentally young, but it has settled enough to be released. Frédéric Cossard's white wines always mature more slowly than his reds. For this 2018, we guess that the first peak will likely come in about two years (its potential is enormous. The fruitiness is nectar-like, thick, rich, and luxurious.), but since a substantial amount of wine was sold during the year-end and New Year period, and the next container is delayed and won't arrive before the Lunar New Year, we currently have low stock. Additionally, we are uncertain whether this world will still exist in two years, so we have decided to release it now. Of course, we believe you can definitely enjoy this moment: climbing the mountain; perhaps it is around the eighth station? right now.

Frédéric Cossard established Domaine de Chassorney in 1996 after 10 years of experience as a wine merchant, and today he is well recognized as a top natural Burgundy winemaker who produces one of the most beautiful wines.

Frédéric Cossard manages his vineyards using 'homeopathic farming.' This is one of the most advanced agricultural practices, which is a mixture of homeopathy and biodynamics, and it has been developed by Frédéric Cossard himself. He does not use SO2 or any chemical products in the cellar, so vinification is also totally natural.

As a result of a high level of integration of sense, intelligence, and technique, the wines are extremely pure, clean, and directly express the terroir. Wines are linked with the movements of the moon and planets. We can enjoy many different faces of wines on different occasions. We can feel that the wines are alive in the bottle and in the glass; it is 'Vin Vivant.

[Domaine de Chassorney]

Frédéric Cossard has owned and managed the vineyards of Saint-Romain, Volnay, Savigny-lès-Beaune, and Hautes-Côtes de Beaune for 30 years, elevating them to be among the top vineyards in those appellations.

In 2018, Frédéric Cossard appointed his long-time friend Aurélien Verdet as the successor at Domaine de Chassorney. Together, they produced wine over a three-year transition period. The 2022 vintage is the first produced under the leadership of Aurélien Verdet, who has fully inherited Frédéric Cossard's methods and philosophy. The wax cap color has changed to orange. Meanwhile, the "FREDERIC COSSARD" labels for Vosne-Romanée, Chambolle-Musigny, and others will continue to be handled by Frédéric and Laure Cossard as usual.

[Frédéric Cossard]

Frédéric Cossard produces wines by purchasing grapes. He has established strong connections with growers through his previous job and has a discerning eye for selecting quality grapes. He produces Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Morey-Saint-Denis, Chambolle-Musigny, Chassagne-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet, and Beaune—all Burgundy appellations. Additionally, Cossard produces wine from grapes sourced from other regions such as Jura, Languedoc, and Beaujolais. The quality of his négoce wines is the same as that of his domaine wines.
